My Stokes trip

Image result for stokes state forest school of conservation

One of the most awaiting experience of any fifth grader in my school is the 2 days Stokes trip. Our school of conservation. Unlike any kid I was so exited. One day of October, we left on a bus with our luggage on a giant truck. It took an hour or so but when I past the beautiful scenery I didn't feel like it took an hour.I felt like Stokes was going to be a fun experience, but I didOptions
n't know what was coming. When we got there, we got our luggage and all the girls were led to the cabin.(Or log house.) When I went inside the cabin I noticed that the bathrooms didn't have doors but instead curtains. I thought maybe that wasn't so bad after all, I knew Stokes was going to be a fun experience at least that's what my teacher Mr. Sannwaldt said  . I set my bed up which was on top of the bunk bed and the bed felt very uncomfortable. Then we set out out for our first academic class with my new friends and new group, group 10.
Confidence course was so fun. Not like I expected. We walked on a tightrope and there was lots of obstacle courses. We did back flips and front flips. It was pretty fun. Then we set out for our second academic class, ASEs. In that class,we had to work together as a team to solve problems. That didn't go so well. I didn't like any of the people in my group and we only solved one problem. So long for my group. After that, I couldn't hike any more. My legs were sore and were aching badly. I even tripped over a rock and fell flat on my face. I didn't see that coming. We  hiked so long, maybe a mile or two to get to Big Timbers. Our dinning area. ( The food was terrible and I wanted my own privacy when I ate. I mean who doesn't.)
After a long dinner, we hiked back two miles to our cabin.I missed my mom already. I didn't know if she was scared or lonely like me.The sky was pitch dark and I can hear a howl that sounded like a coyote howl. I wanted to hug my mom so badly. Wherever she was.
And I didn't have a good night sleep that day. The girls were whispering not minding that everyone was sleeping. They kept flickering flashlights. It was so annoying.
The next morning, we had breakfast and then we set out for trading post. ( Where you buy things.)
My mom gave me 15 dollars. I walked through the store and tried to look for something I liked, then I found it,the last stuffed fox laying on the shelf. Someone walked towards it, I ran and grabbed the fox before she could. The prize was 10 dollars so I kept  my extra 5 dollars.

Next, we went to a scavenger hunt with Mr. McCormick. We had to find landmarks in Stokes so we don't get lost or something. My legs started to ache during the walk but I managed it. Then it was fun time. During the hunt, we saw a tiny wood house. My group ran inside without even knocking and McCormick followed. We opened the door as it creaked and walked inside. It was like a tiny nature museum. There were bones and skulls of different animals. As I walked through the end of the house, I found something really gross.A squirrel and a chipmunk. They were dead and were hardened to make them look like a toy. ( Squirrel murderer I thought). I walked away from the dead animals and found a tank.Inside was a huge turtle.(But it was red.) For a second I thought it was blood , then McCormick told us it was it's natural color.Whew I thought. My group named him

Ralph from teenage mutant Ninja turtles. Then we found a dried up beehive. I left the house and my group followed.Outside was a board to check your wingspan. We checked our wing

Summer - My favorite season

Summer is my favorite season out of the four. The moment I think of summer, the first thing that comes to my mind is the beach. I love playing in the beach waves and enjoy building the sand castles with my friends and brother.
Every summer, my mom and dad take me to a beach and we have lots of entertainment. What is your favorite season.

first violin performance

Shreya started showing interest to learn violin and started her lessons at the age of 7(2013 Sept) with Smt.Radhika Devarajan.  Though she complained of hand and leg aches when she started the lessons , she picked up and started practicing with interest within few months.
The teacher had organised a quarterly concert on january 4th, 2014 at a parent's home and shreya got a chance to play the 'saami ninne' varnam in shankarabaranam raaga with her batchmate.
Though she has given many stage performances in vocal, this is a special and an exciting moment for us as it's the maiden violin performance on stage.
She did really well and made us proud. Hard work and practice will always pay sweetie. Keep working and you will climb heights one day.

trophy from CMANA - September 2014

Winning a trophy in the Great Composers Day, GCD of CMANA (Carnatic Music Association of North America) had always been a dream for me as well as my bublie.
She has participated consecutively three years in the CMANA and this time. yess...she won a prize.
It was definitely a proud moment . She sang the song 'Mayil meedhu' set to Raaga 'Vaasanti'.
My bublie always loves to do solo performances on stage , I had always admired her interest and enthusiasm to sing. Amidst of all kids of her age who are scared to sing solo and want to stick with group performances, my little girl always prefers to go solo. :)

May God bless her for more and more trophies , keep working and keep winning sweetie pie ! :)
